CELEBRATION OF THE EIGHTH CENTENARY OF THE APPROVAL OF THE RULE

Johannesburg 30th may 2009 - At Croatian Church, Houghton

To mark the 8th centenary of the beginnings of the Franciscan family with the approval of the Rule, members of the various branches of OFM friars, Franciscan religous sisters and Secular Franciscans gathered together on May 30th at St Jeromes, Houghton.
On the left: Fr Tony Thouard ofm is congratulating Memory Smith on her 96th birthday. She is our oldest Secular Franciscan in the Order and still an active member in the St Anthony's Fraternity in Pretoria.

The day was filled with joy, and after a con celebrated Mass, (Fr Ivan Strcic, Fr Tony Thouard, Fr Robert Stewart, Fr Myles Russel, Fr Dominic Hession and Fr Liam Mc Dermott) all enjoyed a feast provided by the Croatian community.

Fr Robert shared on the Franciscan charism, reminding us that we are Gospel people.

We are challenged to show 'Gods MERCY'

We are all children of God with a new heart, new eyes to see things as freely given. Our Father gives us everything as GIFT.

As children of God we inherit dignity.

Respect nature as this is where God dwells. We must be in the forefront in "care of creation".

Enter in a relationship with God - in our prayer we dialogue with Him. Bring peace by service. Listen and respect the other. Peace is the way.

Death and God remain in the forefront of our lives. We prepare for LIFE.

Accountability to God

Serve Him with GREAT HUMILITY - our lives are relevant. So relevant to a time where creation and respect is disappearing in our world.

Everyone was overwhelmed by the loving service and generosity of Fr Ivan Strcic and the Croatian Community.

Books, leaflets and banners were all available that we may promote our charism in our many different areas.
